Jazz in the Kulturcafé

In the venerable genre of the piano trio, the three musicians of Stahlwerk have found their own way. They have been playing Swiss clubs and concert venues since 2013, and in 2016 the band produced its first album, »Grund«, on which influences from the realms of jazz, classical, minimal and pop music can be heard. The nine pieces on the record vary between strict and sometimes complex forms on the one hand and high-energy, free-style playing on the other. All the tracks were composed by pianist Dominic Stahl from Basel, who studied classical piano in Lucerne before turning his attention to jazz. He found two congenial musical companions at the jazz school in Basel in percussionist Tobias Schmid, who comes from Bern, and the bass player Francesco Rezzonico, who hails from Ticino.
