Jazz at the Kulturcafé
Lisa Wulff Quartett
Lisa Wulff describes her music as »contemporary jazz« – it ranges from groove and swing to free improvisations. With her quartet, the double bass player and Hamburg native won the Jazz Baltica’s Advancement Award in 2016 and was nominated for an ECHO Jazz in 2017. Her second studio album »Wondrous Strange« is notable for the appearance of an unusual instrument – a soprano bass. Tuned an octave higher than a regular double bass, a soprano bass can produce sounds that are similar to a guitar. As a result, there are no limits to what the bandleader can do as a soloist – and her ensemble know how to exploit that with playful and skilful interaction. Lisa Wulff can be seen performing regularly with the NDR Bigband, and she has toured as a bass player with Nils Landgren, Wolfgang Haffner and jazz legend Rolf Kühn.
Jazz at the Kulturcafé is a monthly event presenting the most promising upcoming artists in the jazz and singer-songwriter scene. It is the perfect experimental platform for musicians and bands from Hamburg and all over the country. The atmosphere is laid back – and admission is free!
