Iveta Apkalna / Organ Concert
5 Years of Elbphilharmonie – 2G+
Anniversary Concert
It’s almost exactly five years since Iveta Apkalna gave her first solo recital on the then brand new organ in the Grand Hall. Since then, she has give the instrument a face in her capacity as the Elbphilharmonie’s titular organist – and of course she has given ample proof in numerous concerts of her own mettle and of the organ’s. It goes without saying that Iveta Apkalna also contributes an organ recital to this anniversary season.
The Latvian organist has assembled a programme for the occasion that combines works and chorale arrangements by Franz Liszt and particularly by Johann Sebastian Bach and also features a work by her countryman Pēteris Vasks. »White landscape« refers to the winter, and is one of the nature-loving composer’s pieces depicting the seasons: »Everything is white. The new year begins. It is a quiet meditation, a great beginning.«
