Insight Organ with Thomas Cornelius
Elbphilharmonie PLUS
Everything about the organ
»Insight Organ« is all about the »queen of instruments«: how does an organ work? What is a windchest, and what is a stop? Question after question – all of which the organist Thomas Cornelius answers through hands-on demonstrations in this discussion concert in Forum Ohlsdorf. Having brought with him some organ pipes and organ samples from the Elbphilharmonie’s original organ on his computer, he provides deep insights into how this versatile instrument works. And he also talks about the organ’s special spatial effect – the instrument is probably more closely linked to its environment than any other instrument. Two halls in the venue offering very different acoustic properties will be used to demonstrate the sound examples to contrasting effect.
If you attended his course, you are sure to discover completely new sides to the king of instruments at your next organ concert: the Elbphilharmonie organ can be heard in all its splendour on 11 October 2023, with Iveta Apkalna operating the manuals and the pedalboard.
The Elbphilharmonie’s »Insight« events give people deeper insights into musical phenomena. Experts in different fields explain aspects from their day-to-day work clearly and entertainingly and are happy to answer the public’s questions.
