Igor Levit / Klavierabend
Brahms / Hersch / Wagner
Clearly ambiguous
»Encounter« is the title that Igor Levit gave his 2020 album featuring chorale arrangements. And the choice of title is typical of him: ambiguous, accessible yet awkward, at the same time provocative and communicative. Whatever this exceptional pianist undertakes, he does it with total earnest, but still retains his sense of fun. In this recital programme he extends the direct encounters between work, arranger, performer and audience with works that include Wagner’s gripping »Tristan« Prelude in the brilliant transcription by Zoltán Kocsis.
