1. Internationales Musikfest Hamburg
It was a sensation: a classical string quartet – one of the world’s finest, in fact – playing jazz, pop, bossa nova and rock music! »Fiction« was the title of the album released by the French Quatuor Ebène in 2010, and with the theme from »Pulp Fiction« together with »Streets of Philadelphia« and »Corcovado«, the album contained just about everything one would never have expected from such an ensemble – and what is more, performed with such surprising ease, precision and confidence. Even the most sceptical purists had to acknowledge that this was one of the most successful crossover projects of the past 25 years. While the quartet continues to perform Mozart et al with passion and dedication, the musicians also carry on in spectacular style as »The Other Ebène«, leading a parallel existence reminiscent of Jekyll & Hyde. This stylish boy band of classical music performs in Hamburg with jazz singer Stacey Kent – who also appeared on »Fiction« – and her partner, the saxophonist Jim Tomlinson.
