Hiromi

Hiromi’s concerts are often musical journeys through the centuries. Trained in both classical music and jazz, and equipped with an open mind, a good sense of humour and spectacular hairstyles, the Japanese pianist invites her audience to take part in a parody of a style guide. Echoes of romanticism à la Schumann and Chopin shine through; she celebrates the stride-piano style of Art Tatum or risks electronic experiments reminiscent of the fusion jazz of Joe Zawinul. Hiromi loves intuitive playing; her fingers sometimes fly over the keyboard at breakneck speed – but never at the expense of technical brilliance, wit and variety.
