The guitar »drones« of Velvet Underground founder Lou Reed and the instruments that go with them don’t only function as impressive sound sculptures in their own right. They also make powerful opposite numbers for spontaneous interaction with musicians who can cope with these soundwaves. Thus for the finale of her »Reflector« festival, Laurie Anderson integrates the installation »Listen Behind You«, which could be experienced on the previous two days in the Kaistudio, into a dialogue with several musicians that she is particularly fond of improvising with at the moment.

While Stewart Hurwood coaxes majestic and wondrous sounds from the Lou Reed equipment in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall, Laurie Anderson and five other improvisers take a critical look at the legacy of her husband Lou Reed: jazz luminaries Joey Baron (percussion) and Greg Cohen (bass); violinist Eyvind Kang from the creative circle of New York avant-garde master John Zorn; the young pianist Elias Stemeseder from Salzburg, and Eldar Tsalikov, a Russian saxophonist from Rostov on the Don. Tsalikov is currently living in Berlin, where he can regularly be heard in a duo together with Greg Cohen.
