Hauschka & Alma Quartet
Description
The Düsseldorf-based pianist Volker Bertelmann, celebrated under the pseudonym Hauschka as »the pop star of the prepared piano« (Die Zeit), has released more than 15 albums in which he explores the complex soundscapes of the modified keyboard instrument. With the help of metal, paper, wood, rubber and felt, Hauschka creates fascinating compositions for orchestra, film and theatre. Among his many collaborations is his work with the Alma Quartet, an ensemble made up of musicians from Amsterdam’s two top orchestras, which he originally met in the Dutch capital’s legendary techno club Trouw. After their debut at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, they now perform for the first time in Hamburg, at the Elbphilharmonie.
