Hamburger Camerata
»Capriccio, Cello & Co«
This concert evening is dedicated to the cello and the Hamburger Camerata »Artist in Residence« Jens Peter Maintz, who is also the musical director of the concert. With Witold Lutoslawski’s emotional »Grave« and Tchaikovsky’s highly virtuosic »Rococo Variations«, Maintz takes on an enormous technical challenge as a soloist. In addition to these solo works, Jens Peter Maintz has chosen two chamber music pieces that are performed here in arrangements for string orchestra: Mozart’s lively Divertimento in D major for String Quartet and Johannes Brahms’s elegiac Sextet in G major. Brahms’s symphonic traits are particularly striking in the string orchestra arrangement.
