Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra
Works by Benjamin Britten, Gioachino Rossini, Brad Edwards and others
Past, present and future
The programme for this academy concert is a phenomenal romp through time and around the world. Starting in the 19th century with the shimmering sounds of Gioachino Rossini and moving on to the mystical Arthus saga penned by Benjamin Britten in the 20th century. From there, the voyage turns back in time to Alexander Borodin in romantic Russia. Then the programme moves on to five works by Brad Edwards, George Antheil, Stefan Schäfer, Nico Muhly and music of the 21st century – including a world premiere by Fabian Otten.
Very much a culinary programme from Italy and France to England, Canada and the USA. Nine very different composers, nine very different sound languages and works, each of which portrays the reality of an artist’s life. In between luxuriant melodies, booming rhythms, iridescence and radiance, melancholy and lightness, a concentrated energy and creative potential is released, along with the elemental power of music somewhere between past, present and future.
