Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra / Alejo Pérez
Luciano Berio: Sinfonia
European music history is simply inconceivable without Italy and all its important contributions – without Vivaldi, Corelli or Pergolesi. Not to mention Monteverdi, Rossini, Bellini, Verdi, Puccini! Can we even imagine opera without these great composers? But then the strange gap in the field of orchestral music: not until the 20th century did Italian composers show any serious interest here. They played a significant role in the avant-garde scene, however, particularly Luigi Nono and Luciano Berio, whose »Sinfonia« of 1968 treads the line between tradition and modernism to excellent effect. In its seventh Philharmonic Concert, the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra under Alejo Pérez traces these developments in Italian music history.
