Hamburg Philharmmonic State Orchestra / Kent Nagano
Widmann: ARCHE – Hamburg International Music Festival
Simply divine
»Let there be light« - under the baton of Kent Nagano, the same work is heard again in the Elbphilharmonie that was played at the inaugural festival in 2017: Jörg Widmann’s oratorio ARCHE. Monumental, indeed overwhelming in its scoring, it is based on various texts by Heine, Schiller, Klabund and others, and the premiere in the Grand Hall was a sensation. Very much in the Beethoven spirit, it was Widmann’s greatest wish that his work »coming from the heart would find the way to people’s hearts«.
