Georgian Chamber Orchestra Ingolstadt
Focus on the Caucasus
Viennese classicism meets the Caucasus: the Georgian Chamber Orchestra Ingolstadt came to Germany 28 years ago. Since then it has been cultivating a repertoire that mixes music from its homeland with western European classical music.
Founded in Tbilisi in 1964, the chamber orchestra marked a new chapter at the beginning of the 1990s by moving to Ingolstadt. Despite the geographic rupture, they continue to foster and cherish their eastern European identity to this day – building bridges between the cultures of east and west with their programmes in the process.
The »Miniatures« of the Georgian cellist and composer Sulkhan Tsintsadze are characterised by a stirring folkloristic sound, while the chamber symphony by his compatriot Sulchan Nassidse has the monumentality of a work by Shostakovich. For Mozart’s piano concerto, the Ingolstadt orchestra is joined by soloists Khatia and Gvantsa Buniatishvili, who describe their sisterly duo as a fusion of »wind and earth«.
A neighbour from the Caucasus is taking to the conductor’s desk: the Armenian Ruben Gazarian is also well-known as the artistic director of the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn.
