Ferdinand von Schirach & Magdalena Hoffmann: »Nachmittage« und »Ungehörtes«
Harbour Front Sounds
A Cosmopolitan’s Story
The magazine Der Spiegel called Ferdinand von Schirach a »grandiose narrator«, the New York Times an »exceptional stylist«, and the Independent compared him to Kafka and Kleist, while the Daily Telegraph descrubed him as »one of the most striking voices in European literature«. Many of his collections of stories and his novels have been filmed and have become international bestsellers, selling millions of copies; his plays »Terror« and »Gott« are among the most successful dramas of our time. At the Harbour Front Sounds Festival, Schirach presents his new collection of stories, »Nachmittage«.
The individual stories tell of mild early-summer mornings, of rainy afternoons and black nights. They are set in Berlin, Pamplona, Oslo, Tokyo, Zurich, New York, Marrakesh, Taipeh and Vienna. These are stories about the things that change our lives – coincidences, wrong decisions and the fleeting nature of happiness. Schirach writes about people’s loneliness, about art, literature and film, and time after time about love.
