Erlend Øye and La Comitiva
Reflektor Nils Frahm
Could the Norwegian legend Erlend Øye have known in 2001 that he, with the album title »Quiet is the New Loud«, was more or less giving a name to one of the defining musical movements of the following years? With the Kings of Convenience, Øye generated maximum intensity and urgency with quiet, slimmed-down sounds. The duo played a huge part in establishing the cult of quiet. However, Øye soon turned to explore new ideas, and with »The Whitest Boy Alive« he brought minimalistic funk and house sounds to the stage in a band format – another band project people were soon raving about.

Erlend Øye now lives in Sicily, where he has discovered the airy grandezza of Italo-pop. It is also in Italy that Øye got to know »La Comitiva«. With buckets of Mediterranean enthusiasm and a wealth of acoustic instruments, he and the ensemble perform favourites from the Erlend Øye canon as well as lots of new, unreleased material at the Elbphilharmonie.
