In the Baroque age, the Hamburg State Opera on the Gänsemarkt was Germany’s biggest commercial opera house. The big stars of the time – figures such as Handel, Telemann and Keiser – worked there, and the institution experienced a dramatic rise and fall. »reloaded«: with their gala concert, the Hamburg-based Ensemble Schirokko is aiming to breathe new life into the venerable opera house on the Gänsemarkt. They perform instrumental works and arias from operas by Handel (»Almira«), Mattheson (»Cleopatra«), Orlandini (»Nerone«), Telemann (»Der geduldige Socrates«) and Keiser (»Orpheus« and »Der lächerliche Prinz Jodelet«), sung by international stars. As a very special highlight, the set is designed by Hamburg art students as a video projection behind the orchestra – commentarial, illustrative and maybe also a little tongue in cheek.

Please note: Johanna Winkel has regrettably been forced to cancel her appearance in this concert for private reasons. Ensemble Schirokko is grateful that the soprano Elisabeth Breuer has kindly agreed to step in.
