Ensemble Pygmalion / Raphaël Pichon
»Routes to Bach: A Dynasty« / Works by Johann Christoph Bach, Michael Praetorius, Heinrich Isaac
Bach & Bach
When the talk turns to the composer Bach, only one person can be meant – Johann Sebastian. Is that right? Well, of course there are his sons Johann Christian, Wilhelm Friedemann and Carl Philipp Emanuel. But is that really all? Raphaël Pichon and his instrumental and vocal ensemble Pygmalion see things differently. In their three-part concert series »Ways to Bach«, they focus on Johann Sebastian Bach’s musical roots, and on his immediate and his more distant environment.
The concert » Ways to Bach: A dynasty« focuses entirely on Bach’s highly musical relatives. After all, the many branches of the Bach family contained a literally awe-inspiring number of outstanding musicians and composers.
The first mention goes to Johann Sebastian’s two uncles Johann Michael and Johann Christoph and to the forefather of the musical Bachs, Johann Bach.
With the Renaissance composer Heinrich Isaac and the Early Baroque composer Michael Praetorius, the programme also features artists who had a significant influence on the music of their time and of the generations to come. As internationally celebrated specialists for Early Music, Raphaël Pichon and his ensemble bring these beautiful works back to life.
