Ein Wintermärchen / A Christmas Fairy Tale

Reflective music and stories belong to the Advent season as much as the Christmas tree and all the decorations belong to Christmas. »Ein Wintermärchen« (A Christmas Fairy Tale) combines popular German Christmas carols and texts to form a very special literary and musical programme. It’s a clear statement that the organisers managed to win the services of top-drawer artists like Xavier de Maistre, Mojca Erdmann and Ray Chen as soloists. Berlin-based arranger, composer and pianist Christoph Israel has made tasteful arrangements of German Christmas carols for these soloists and the Zürich Chamber Orchestra. The musical sections of the evening are interspersed with texts that throw many a humorous and critical glance at Yuletide, read by the charismatic actress Katharina Thalbach.
