Dvořák Trio / »Dumky«
Czech it out!
The Dvořák Trio unites three of the most gifted Czech musicians, all of whom perform as soloists on a regular basis. Since winning the first prize at the Bohuslav-Martinů-Stiftung competition in 2004, the three musicians make up one of the top players in the league of international piano trios.
The Dvořák Trio’s concert programme encompasses three works from three epochs by composers from its homeland: The Piano Trio in D major composed by Anton Reicha, a friend of Beethoven who is best known in Germany for his woodwind chamber music, comes from the classic period. Antonín Dvořák’s popular »Dumky Trio« – which takes its name from the Slavonic word »dumka« (song of mourning) – radiates the spirit of Bohemian national romanticism. The classical modern is represented with an innovative blend of neo-baroque elements and Czech musical influences in Bohuslav Martinůs’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
