One of the reasons why David Bowie chose sax player Donny McCaslin and his band to produce his last album, »Blackstar«, was in all likelihood the New York musician’s openness to different styles. On his latest album, »Beyond Now«, which McCaslin recorded while the collaboration with Bowie was still fresh in his mind, McCaslin’s band varies between free jazz improvisation, high-energy rock music and electronic soundscapes.
