A dinosaur that flies

Laura Jurd is a truly gifted musician: she started playing the trumpet as a child, she is a fantastic composer for both jazz and contemporary music, and heads the quartet Dinosaur, for which she also supplies all the material. She founded the quartet, often referred to as a »British super-group«, when she was 20, and she now makes her Elbphilharmonie debut with it. The album released to mark the band’s tenth anniversary is entitled »To the Earth«.

The concert was originally scheduled for 7 May 2022.

The band – a piano trio plus soloist – is made up of highly unconventional individuals who fit perfectly together like four carefully-sawn pieces of a complex mosaic. You cannot help being amazed at the ease with which the brilliant leader and her three fellow musicians make this remarkable music fly – music that is at once cunning and inventive, always good for a surprise but coherently written. These are peerless songs, gripping from the first note to the last.
