»I’ve loved Tchaikovsky’s music as long as I can remember. And like every first love, this love will never fade.« Semyon Bychkov, principal conductor of the Czech Philharmonic, and his orchestra are paying tribute to this love by recording the complete symphonies of the Russian Romantic composer. And tonight the Elbphilharmonie audience has the opportunity to benefit from this intense study of Tchaikovsky’s music. The Czech orchestra, whose first public concert in 1896 was conducted by none other than the composer Dvořák, is predestined for the great Romantic repertoire.
Romantic music is also a speciality of the young Canadian pianist Jan Lisiecki, who caused a sensation with his interpretation of the Chopin piano concertos at the age of only 15. This season Lisiecki goes one step further and tackles Rachmaninov’s highly expressive Piano Concerto No. 2.
