Concerts for Hamburg
Soloists of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra
Among all symphonic composers, Beethoven was probably the greatest. It’s true that he didn’t write as many symphonies as Haydn (over 100) or Mozart (41), but his nine contributions to the genre are unsurpassed in terms of individuality. The famous opening of his Fifth Symphony (ta-ta-ta-taaa) or the »Ode to Joy« from the Ninth, which has become a hymn for Europe: these are immortal melodies that pretty much everyone has heard at some time. Thomas Hengelbrock and his NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra take possession of their new concert hall with the incandescent rhythmic surge of the Seventh Symphony.
