The two madrigal circles »Lamento d’Arianna« and »Sestina« in Claudio Monteverdi’s sixth book of madrigals are among the milestones of their genre. Here the Italian baroque composer plays with emotion in music in a way that would have been unthinkable in the decades before. The Monteverdi Choir Hamburg performs the famous works in alternation with the award-winning ensemble Ælbgut accompanied by harpsichord, viola da gamba and lirone.
