»The horn is the soul of the orchestra«, according to Robert Schumann, who admired the instrument’s soft, lyrical sound, which evokes nature and the forest, the night and the hunt, and a sense of longing in the human heart. As well as parts in orchestral works, Schumann – in his chamber music year of 1849 – composed the »Adagio and Allegro Op. 70« for Horn and Piano, one of the most famous works of all time for that combination of instruments.
