Charlie Chaplin: »The Circus«
Film Concert
At this season’s traditional Symphoniker Hamburg silent film concert, there is a true classic on the programme again: Charlie Chaplin’s silent film comedy »The Circus« from the year 1928. Originally, Chaplin was nominated for best actor at the Academy Awards for his role as the main character, Tramp. The jury, however, decided to award him an honorary Oscar for his achievements as author, actor, director and producer of the film. The film score was also penned by Chaplin – which the Symphoniker performs synchronously with the screened film, in which the humorous but tragic hero Tramp bumbles through the absurd circus world.
