Chanson: Pomme
Hamburg International Music Festival
One smart apple
Stylish, confident and authentic: that’s how the 26-year-old singer Pomme, who is currently causing quite a stir in her native France, appears in her videos and interviews. Her clear, bright voice stood out even when she was a small child, the chansonnière explains. Then, in 2017 she released her debut album under her stage name Pomme, a sobriquet that hasn’t fallen far from the tree, considering that her real name is Claire Pommet. When performing live, she also plays the guitar and, for some songs, the autoharp, which is a zither with harmony push-buttons. Pomme’s poetic lyrics deal with auto-fictional events, gender issues, and the loves and lives of women. Her concert at the Hamburg International Music Festival is part of a mini-spotlight that presents the modern French chanson scene in Hamburg for the first time.
