Chamber Music Concert / Symphoniker Hamburg
»Multi-String Fun«
Although in Bach’s times, the viola da gamba was fashionable, interestingly, he only composed one chamber music piece with this instrument in mind: his masterpiece, the Brandenburg Concerto Nr. 6, written exclusively for lower-pitched string instruments. Originally, the three Gamba Sonatas 1027 to 1029 were sonatas for a trio, which Bach simply reworked. Today, they are considered to be some of his best chamber music pieces.
