The singer-songwriter Cäthe – born in 1982 as Catharina Sieland – is finally back on stage after a two-year baby break. Hamburg is where she and her band made it big so she is a top candidate for »Made in Hamburg« – even if she has moved to Berlin in the meantime. When writing about her, critics always use impressive comparisons that emphasise how her voice stays with you: Janis Joplin, Ina Deter or Nina Hagen. But Cäthe prefers to look forward to the future, reinventing herself from one album to the next, and refusing to bow to musical or stylistic expectations. She was recently quoted in the magazine »virtuos« as saying: »Musicians are painters and painters are dancers. I believe in my own brushstroke and I focus on my own dance style. I want to stand strong and be the sound of my own truth – whether people will listen to me doing that or not.« But boy, do we want to listen!
The pop metropolis of Hamburg can look back at a proud tradition. The »Made in Hamburg« series prefers to look to the future and invites some of the scene’s most exciting representatives to the Elbphilharmonie Recital Hall.
