Description

Carl Orff gained fame overnight in 1937 with his ambitious choral work »Carmina Burana«. Contemporary harmonies and expressive melodies are combined with powerful rhythms, an artful simplicity and elements from medieval music. Orff’s composition is based on a collection of Latin, Middle High German and Old High German poems that were found in Benediktbeuren Abbey in Bavaria in 1803, a collection that is considered today to be among the most important literary works from the Middle Ages.
