CANCELLED: The Sorabji Project / Kevin Bowyer
Hamburg International Music Festival
Kevin Bowyer has been forced to cancel the »Sorabji Project« due to personal reasons. The organist and the Elbphilharmonie’s Artistic Planning department are in the process of organising a replacement date for this spectacular organ marathon, however, it will almost certainly not be realised before the 2019/20 season. Nathan J. Laube, one of the rising stars of the international organ scene, steps in for Bowyer and makes his debut at the Elbphilharmonie. Tickets retain their validity.
Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji (1892–1988) is one of the absolute solitaires of music history. The British composer’s epic works combine the music of his Parsi ancestors with echoes of his models Scriabin and Busoni, both of them likewise colourful and unconventional figures. British organ super-virtuoso Kevin Bowyer presents Sorabji’s Organ Symphony No. 2 with a total length of eight hours – a special listening experience if ever there was one!
