The seven deadly sins and the seven virtues offer enough material for walls full of pictures and several yards of bookshelves: be it in art, film or music, these elementary human needs and desires and the attempts to control them always make for a good story. For her latest aria compilation, Simone Kermes, known for her well thought-out theme programmes, did research in libraries round the world and found some interesting scores. Among them were hitherto unknown baroque arias, highly virtuoso and touching at the same time. In tonight’s concert she also follows new paths, presenting popular modern pieces in baroque guise.
