On his new album »Prélude«, the pianist Karim Shehata focuses on a genre that rarely gets to be in the spotlight by itself. The album includes a prelude with fugue from Johann Sebastian Bach’s »Well-Tempered Clavier« as well as Claude Debussy’s »Suite bergamasque« – which features a wonderfully effervescent »Prélude« before the famous »Clair de Lune«. The German pianist with Egyptian roots also presents individual preludes by Ferruccio Busoni, Lili Boulanger and Johannes Brahms’s contemporary Theodor Kirchner.
