Ever since Ravi Shankar blended Indian ragas with jazz harmonies and taught George Harrison to play the sitar, the oriental sounds of this instrument have been very familiar in this part of the world. But it has been a long time since we heard the sitar presented in such a modern and fresh way as it is incorporated into their songs by the Pulsar Trio. In this trio constellation with piano and drums, the three musicians span a spectrum of mesmerising patterns that are reminiscent of the minimal music of La Monte Young, and catchy melodic arches that would even make more than a few pop stars turn green with envy.

Jazz at the Kulturcafé is a monthly event presenting the most promising upcoming artists in the jazz and singer-songwriter scene. It is the perfect experimental platform for musicians and bands from Hamburg and all over the country. The atmosphere is laid back – and admission is free!
