Bye Bye Beethoven: Patricia Kopatchinskaja
2nd Hamburg International Music Festival
Description
»Classical music is like a big cruise ship, with everyone sitting in back looking backward, at the past. No one is sitting in front looking forward...« These are bitter words, but Patricia Kopatschinskaja knows what she is talking about. Since most her time is spent playing the same pieces time and time again, by composers who have been dead for centuries, it is time for a revolution!
And who better to lead this revolution than a passionate, dynamic violinist, whose energy reaches all the way to the back row. Together with the first-rate Mahler Chamber Orchestra, founded by Claudio Abbado, Kopatschinskaja has mounted a concert performance, which positively contradicts classical music listening habits at the highest level - a transformative breath of fresh air for classical music!
