Boston Symphony Orchestra / Andris Nelsons
2nd Hamburg International Music Festival
The »transatlantic super maestro«
He is one of today’s most sought-after conductors: Andris Nelsons. Even with his new position as music director at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, he remains faithful to the Boston Symphony Orchestra, where he has been music director since 2014. After several guest performances in Hamburg, the »transatlantic super maestro« (Die Welt) appears on the stage of the Laeiszhalle together with his American deluxe orchestra for the first time.
The programme features Gustav Mahler’s monumental Ninth Symphony, with which Nelsons took the American audience in his 2011 debut at Carnegie Hall by storm. The symphony is not just Mahler’s last work: this deeply moving piece is also interpreted as the composer’s farewell to the world.
