Nils Frahm has invited artists who complement each other perfectly to play at the concerts in the Recital Hall during his »Reflektor« festival. At the double-bill concerts, each half is performed by a different musician. This concert is opened by Björn Meyer on the fretless electric bass guitar. Nubya Garcia belongs to the lively London jazz scene; her music incorporates Caribbean and African sounds.

Saxophonist and composer Nubya Garcia (born 1992) is a rising star from London’s cultural melting pot and the young, self-organised London movement »jazzre:freshed«. Her 2017 debut recording »Nubya’s 5ive« was celebrated not just by disc jockey and record label owner Gilles Petersen. She consciously and musically switches between powerful and intimate, whispering sounds.
Swedish musician Björn Meyer discovered the six-string fretless electric bass at an early age. As an instrument, with the malleability of its sounds and its hypnotic effect, it is not that different to the sitar. And in his devotion to jazz as a medium for mediation, Meyer’s approach is not a world away from India’s musical culture. As a member of the Swiss ritual groove band Ronin, Meyer helped coin the term »Zen funk«. His solo debut »Provenance«, which lets the dark-gold bass guitar shine as a solo instrument, was released on ECM in 2017.
