»Casta diva«, Norma’s entrance aria, has been one of opera’s truly great hits since its premiere in 1831. The Georgian star soprano Salome Jicia now celebrates her Elbphilharmonie debut with this fantastically beautiful as well as virtuosic piece. Michael Spyres, at her side as the Pollione, is a true phenomenon: thanks to his vocal range, the American is at home in both tenor and baritone roles. Especially in Italian bel canto, the music of Rossini, Donizetti and Bellini, he is one of the most distinguished singers in the world. Riccardo Minasi, a true »Norma« expert, is at the podium of the Ensemble Resonanz – the Italian all-round musician himself has just brought out a new edition of the opera, which will celebrate its German premiere this evening in the Elbphilharmonie.
