The Belcea Quartett is exploring »last« string quartets in this concert. Both works in the programme are final compositions by Shostakovich and Schubert. Because of their disturbing radicalism, these multilayered works are touchstones for any world-class ensemble: they break free from conventions and demand extreme playing.
