Belcea Quartet
Beethoven
Description
»What seems to be the predominant impulse driving this music is man’s yearning for freedom, the unquenchable desire to expand his limit and to learn the truth about himself in this process.« What the Belcea Quartet say in their notes to their recording of the complete Beethoven string quartets is just as true for the rest of their artistic work. These musicians refuse to be limited by boundaries: they cannot be constricted by any geographic location or repertoire. Although formed at London’s Royal College of Music in 1994, it is not a British ensemble per se. Two of the founding members – the Romanian violinist Corina Belcea and the Polish violist Krzysztof Chorzelski – bring different artistic backgrounds to the mix.
