Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra / Rana / Nézet-Séguin
Abrahamsen / Clara Schumann / Brahms – Hamburg International Music Festival
Powerful rediscovery
Clara Schumann’s Piano Concerto is currently experiencing something of a revival on the concert stage – and rightly so. Not only was she a far more gifted virtuoso than her husband Robert, she was also his match as a composer with a distinctive style of her own. Her concerto is bursting with power and energy, technical challenges and romantic feelings. One of her most vocal champions is the young Italian pianist Beatrice Rana, who now performs the work with the renowned Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Yannick Nézet-Séguin in the Elbphilharmonie.
