»Vier Vollblutmusiker, die vor nichts und niemandem Angst haben« – so beschrieb die Times das in London beheimatete Barbirolli Quartet. Das breite Spektrum ihres Repertoires spiegelt sich auch in ihrem Gastspiel in der Laeiszhalle; die Bandbreite reicht vom Urvater des Streichquartetts, Joseph Haydn, über den Impressionisten Debussy und den in England sehr populären Frederick Delius bis hin zu Luciano Berio, einem Pionier der Neuen Musik. Die Mitglieder des Quartetts selbst symbolisieren eine ähnliche Vielfalt: Sie stammen aus Kanada, Wales und Australien und fanden erst 2003 am Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester zusammen. Benannt haben sie sich übrigens nach dem Dirigenten Sir John Barbirolli, der nach fünf Jahren als Chef des New York Philharmonic ab 1943 über 25 Jahre lang das Hallé Symphony Orchestra Manchester leitete.

Chamber music series, lieder recitals, children's concerts and jazz events seem to be made for the Recital Hall of the Laeiszhalle, which can accommodate up to 640 guests. (Please note: The Laeiszhalle is a separate concert hall located three kilometres away from the Elbphilharmonie.)

We suggest visitors arrive at the Laeiszhalle main entrance not later than 30 minutes before the start of the concert or event. Late seating is not guaranteed and latecomers may not be admitted to the concert hall.
The entrance of the Recital Hall is located on Gorch-Fock-Wall.
