Magnificent costumes, imaginative production and the famous hits of Rodgers and Hammerstein: Cinderella, the poor maid with the wicked stepmother, also transforms into a beaming princess at the end of this musical version of the Grimm fairy tale. But before we reach that happy end, fairyland is gripped by some strange and turbulent goings-on: there is a cook who refuses to cook, a court jester who simply isn’t funny, a king who does not want to rule, and a prince who masquerades as a messenger.
