Through the Looking Glass

For more than 15 years, Alela Diane has dedicated her life to music, touring extensively in Europe and America. She recorded the new album »Looking Glass« while selling her house in Portland, which she’d bought at the age of 26 with her first royalties. Shortly after recording the album, Diane and her family moved into a large Victorian house built in 1892 that looks like a dollhouse. Now in need of renovation, the house is hidden amongst the trees on wooded grounds. Diane poured her heart and soul into the renovation – she wanted to pass on some of the magic she experienced in her own childhood home to her daughters, aged 5 and 8. In accord with Diane’s love for all things ancient, the origins of the album title, like her new home, lie in the 19th century. The original meaning of »looking glass« was »mirror«, but after Lewis Carroll published his novel »Through the Looking Glass« in 1871, the term gained an added meaning: the opposite of what is normal or expected.
