Akram Khan Company: iTMOi
Lux aeterna
London’s famous choreographer and dancer Akram Khan uses new techniques to stage a theme that has shocked and fascinated since the beginning of time: sacrifice. To this end he has chosen two of the most familiar and profound representations of sacrificial rituals, the biblical story of Abraham and Isaac and Igor Strawinsky’s scandal-ridden ballet »The Rite of Spring«, and combined them into a breathtaking concentration of images. For »iTMOi« (in the mind of igor) he created an entirely new soundtrack together with composers Nitin Sawhney, Jocelyn Pook and Ben Frost, based on Strawinsky’s epoch-making score. Combined with images reminiscent of Hieronymus Bosch’s grotesque mythical creatures, he presents a scenario wavering between dream and nightmare, which is equally moving and disturbing.
