Adam Bałdych / Vladyslav Sendecki / Atom String Quartet
»Piano Meets Strings«
»Piano and strings is a royal combination,« says Vladyslav Sendecki, »because in Poland, these instruments have long played a special role in modern jazz«. One of the pioneers in the 1960s was the pianist and composer Krzysztof Komeda. A decade later the violinist Zbigniew Seifert transferred the ideas of John Coltrane to four strings. Today, Adam Bałdych is leading the Polish violin tradition further towards an intoxicating, virtuosic mixture of classic and jazz – as is the Atom String Quartet, which is formed of four strong personalities that are not afraid to redefine the string quartet genre. The key figure of the evening is Vladyslav Sendecki, who trained playing everything from Frédéric Chopin to Herbie Hancock. He is known as one of the world’s best jazz pianists and he builds creative bridges between himself and the string players on this evening.
This concert replaces the cancelled concert featuring the Tomasz Stańko New York Quartet.
