Achim Reichel & Peter Lohmeyer: Ein Balladen-Abend
Harbour Front Sounds
Achim’s beloved Ballads
In the late 1970s, at a time when this seemed anything but promising, the »Hamburger Jung« Achim Reichel, former frontman of the legendary beat band The Rattles, devoted himself to turning good old German poetry into musical ballads. The press praised the Hamburg musician for »making our poets and philosophers rock without playing to the gallery or trying hard to be intellectual«. With his award-winning albums »Regenballade« and »Wilder Wassermann«, Reichel pulled off the feat of placing Goethe, Heine and Fontane in the pop charts.
At the Elbphilharmonie, he appears with his acoustic guitar as a bard with a colourful bouquet of ballads he has set to music. He is accompanied by the actor Peter Lohmeyer (»Das Wunder von Bern«, »Jedermann« at the Salzburg Festival). While he has already lent his voice to several major international authors like Ian McEwan or Jussi Adler Olsen at the Harbour Front Sounds Festival, this time he will read some of the ballads that Achim Reichel has not set to music – not yet.
