Accademia del Piacere / Fahmi Alqhai

In 2002, viola da gamba master Fahmi Alqhai founded the early music group Accademia del Piacere. Since then, this Spanish ensemble has been one of Europe’s leading forces in the field of 17th and 18th century music played on original instruments. The key to their success: innovative concepts, technical perfection and a virtuosity that is nothing short of breathtaking. Moreover, the musicians’ delight in playing and improvising together with their conductor’s charisma turns every concert into a real musical event. The Andalusian musicians now appear in the »Das Alte Werk« series with their new cult project, »Rediscovering Spain«. On gambas, baroque guitars and percussion, the Accademia del Piacere revitalise the passion and authenticity of improvisation that were already typical of the fascinating music of Spain around the year 1600.
