After two overwhelming successes in the 2017/18 season, choreographer Serge Aimé Coulibaly returns to Hamburg with an appearance at the »Lux aeterna« festival. Coulibaly, who is one of the leading figures in West African dance, looks at the consequences of global migration in his new piece, »Kirina«, which will be performed three times at Kampnagel.
The music for the project comes from the pen of internationally celebrated singer and composer Rokia Traoré, a native of Mali, to whom the BBC has awarded its coveted World Music Award. Together with a big ensemble of dancers, instrumentalists, singers, a narrator and 30 local extras, Coulibaly, Traoré and the Senegalese thinker Felwine Sarr follow the tracks of an African people in search of its future. In the process, they evolve the vision of an independent, economically strong and social Africa.
»Kirina« is dedicated to the great movements of our time, to its people and the challenges facing them, and to the sacrifices they are called on to make.
